(No charge for performers.)Įmail: or Īdvanced Choir is an auditioned yearlong course designed for those who singers who are ready to pursue a more rigorous choir ensemble. (As always, music must be memorized!)There is a charge for spectators to enter the competitions. Performances are timed, with penalties assessed for time or out-of-bounds infractions. In many groups, wind players play mallets or other percussion instruments on the sideline (the ’front ensemble’, also known as ‘the pit’). Search ‘indoor percussion’ on YouTube for examples. Groups perform on a basketball court instead of a football field, and can get quite intricate with costumes, props, floor mats, etc. The groups consist of marching percussion instruments, mallets (ie xylophones, etc) and electronic equipment (ie electronic keyboards). Indoor percussion ensembles are groups typically formed in the non-marching season months to keep marching percussion skills sharp, as concert percussion music is sometimes rather boring for high schoolers. Indoor Percussion – “Woodlawn Musical Percussion” The group may perform at Concert band concerts, other community affairs, and basketball games. Members receive credit for participation in the Jacket Point system. Jazz band is offered during the school day, and successful completion of the course earns one credit toward high school graduation. Jazz band focuses on improvisation, chords, and rhythms specific to the medium. Students who do not normally play these instruments may switch instruments for this group only, but they must have a level of proficiency on the secondary instrument so as not to slow down the education of the group as a whole. Rhythm Section: Drums, Guitar, Bass, Piano.The Jazz band is compromised of students who wish to learn about jazz. Schedules of these performances are usually available in October and February. The concert band begins the second week of November and runs through May. ![]() The Mainstay of the music program at Woodlawn High School, the marching band is offered from July to the first week of November. However if they are eager and able we have some great ideas for you to try out.Marching/ Concert Band – “Powerhouse Purple” School is hard and if they are struggling to handle it adding more to their plate could burn them out. My son usually does one a week during the school year but many more in the summer and other school breaks. The work your child’s teacher sends home is your first priority. They are not designed to replace homework. ![]() There are a few worksheets but most of the learning is hands on and many are active. Learning After School is our series of activities for kids in Kindergarten and up that are short, educational and don’t usually feel like homework. Do you have a child who is schooled outside of the home but needs a little more? Maybe they need more practice in math or handwriting? Have a child in half day Kindergarten that you want to work with a little more? Maybe like our school your kids get dismissed early one day a week and you don’t want them only watching extra TV? ![]()
